Synthetic biology to understand how signaling networks drive stem-cell differentiation and cancer

·       Synthetic biology to understand how signaling networks drive stem-cell differentiation and cancer

·       Computational microscopy to understand the biophysics of cells. 

We are creating synthetic signaling networks to control stem-cell differentiation as a pilot project for the HGP-write project; we are using ancestral resurrection to understand how kinases evolved their modern control and how this control goes awry in cancer; and we are using microfluidics and genetically encoded nanoparticles to study the structure of the cytoplasm and nucleoplasm and how cells respond to mechanical stress.
